November Has Traditionally Been A Slow Start

- Dec 05, 2018 -

November has traditionally been a slow start to the O’Neill Wave of the Winter — not enough swell, too much sand on the reef, etc. This year started off like that — right up until the last few days of the month when the North Pacific Ocean went kablooey and the North Shore woke up and said and the entries started pouring in.

The show on November 25th, with multiple entries being uploaded — including five of the top six. (Barron Mamiya, Nathan Florence, Ian Gouveia, Zeke Lau, Reef McIntosh.) The 26th was maxed out at Pipe, though we received Eli Olson’s crazy Outer Reef bomb. A few more came in from the dropping swell on the 27th, but it wasn’t quite as kablooey as the building swell. And while Pipe will max out, we’re undoubtably about to get a whole bunch more from this hopefully on the building and dropping sides.

Needless to say,  Gerry Lopez, Shawn Bailey, Shane Dorian and Pancho Sullivan — had their work cut out for ’em. They poured over and decided on the month’s top six, which are listed in alphabetical order below. Vote at the bottom on your favorite — the user’s choice winner for the month gets an automatic seeding into the year-end top ten.
